Dark under eye circles, also known as bags, are caused by broken blood vessels within the lower eyelid. A shadow forms underneath the bag causing the dark circles to appear. These dark circles can bring about a chronically fatigued look, or make you appear older than you actually are.
Causes of dark circles under the eyes range from fatigue, vitamin deficiency, hyper pigmentation, allergies, age, and medical conditions. However, heredity is the most common cause for dark circles under the eye. Getting the proper rest and eating the right foods can sometimes help treat and improve dark under eye circles, but if your circles are in fact, genetic, they will usually worsen if left untreated.
Today, there are plenty of non-surgical methods available to get rid of dark circles under eyes. In fact, everyone probably knows someone that has tried tea bags or cucumbers. Green tea does actually contain an anti-inflammatory substance called EGCG that can reduce puffiness, but the amount of EGCG is so small in most teas that it might not be worth it. Home remedies for dark under eye circles are mostly ineffective because they are not powerful enough to alter the skin's chemistry. The best treatments for under eye circles are non-surgical aesthetic treatments. SkinFirst offers the latest and safest treatment for dark circles.
Radio Frequency for Dark Circles
Radio frequency energy is utilised for the reduction of wrinkles by strengthening and tightening the skin. The radio frequency energy is absorbed by the water molecules deep under the epidermis causing friction between the molecules. This energy is transferred into heat energy. The skin perceives that there is going to be an injury due to the heat under the skins surface (however it is no way near injury point); it then sends messages to the brain to release new, fresh blood flow to the area, activates collagen stimulation and shortens the elastin fibers. This results in the skin being tightened and it smoothes the skin, making it appear more youthful.
Radio Frequency causes the following reactions:
Tissue Retraction: The generated heat causes local contraction of the collagen fibers, to immediately tighten the skin.
New collagen formation: By heating the dermis, new collagen production is stimulated. This longer term tightening effect is delayed and may take from 3-6 months to be visible, although there is an immediate more short term tightening.
Improved circulation: RF will also improve the blood and lymphatic flow. This helps with a better oxygen supply and greater toxin clearance to further reduce the effects of aging.
Radio frequency will give immediate lifting and tightening effects as well as longer lasting tightening within 3-6 months when new collagen has been produced and after the treatments have finished.
As with all of our treatments at SkinFirst the treatment is non-invasive so there is NO recovery period after treatment. Normal activities may resume virtually immediately after the treatment provided there is no retained heat within the treated area.
What is radio frequency like?
The skin is warmed with a metal head on the end of a treatment handpiece and radio frequency waves are controlled and emitted. The heat gradually increases as we aim to raise the skin surface up to a temperature of between 38 and 42 degrees celsius. This helps the collagen rise to the top of the skin, strengthening the skin around the eyes and results in tissue retraction, new collagen formation and improved circulation, reducing dark circles under the eyes. There is no skin incision or invasion whatsoever as we work with the body’s natural biological mechanisms. An immediate noticeable improvement can be observed but best results are after a course of 6 to 8 depending on the severity of the dark circles.
