What is Light therapy?
‘Phototherapy (light therapy) is the use of photons of light to alter biological activity.’
Cells within our bodies contain receptors that naturally absorb light waves when exposed to light. This absorption stimulates normal cellular processes that otherwise occur naturally within the cell. Light therapy merely enhances this process improving cell function and accelerating cell proliferation.
What is Lightfusion?
Lightfusion is an innovative photo-facial suitable for all skin types that utilises natural visible red light and near infrared light wavelengths to restore cell processes in the skin to soften fine lines, improve skin tone and brighten the complexion. The lightfusion is unique as it is held millimeters from the skin unlike traditional LED panel type devices that are positioned away from the face. This allows for maximum absorption of light into the skin.
What are the benefits of visible red light and near infrared light used in the lightfusion device?
Although both red and infrared wavelengths penetrate to different depths and their mechanisms of action are different, their therapeutic effects are very similar. Both wavelengths naturally stimulate skin rejuvenation. Red visible light is clinically proven to increase the body’s cellular energy (ATP). It is potently absorbed by fibroblasts increasing the synthesis of collagen and other vital connective tissue fibers. It stimulates the microcirculation and lymphatic systems and increases neovascularisation. Other benefits of red visible light include; improved skin texture and radiance, increased skin hydration, reduced appearance of enlarged pores, reduced fine lines and it also stimulates lymph activity to eliminate toxins and accelerate healing.
The near infrared light works synergistically with the visible red light for optimum rejuvenation results to counteract ageing and environmental damage. It is deeply absorbed in the skin targeting the inflammatory process, accelerating cell and tissue repair and the release of growth factors. Due to its powerful inflammatory effect, the light fusion is extremely beneficial for conditions such as acne, rosacea and psoriasis and it can also be used immediately after treatments such as chemical peels and skin needling. Near infrared light is also clinically proven to reduce melanin production for the treatment of hyperpigmentation and aids penetration of topical products through increased cell permeability.
What happens during the treatment?
Following a deep cleanse, the lightfusion Hydrogel mask is applied; this is both cooling and deeply hydrating before the device is placed over the mask. After 10 minutes both are removed and further facial and cosmeceutical products are applied to maximise the receptive nature of the skin following your treatment. Following your photo-facial you will be given a complimentary sachet of lightfusion sleep recovery cream to use the same evening to enable the effects of the light to carry on working hours after the treatment is completed.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments required is dependant on the required results. A course of 6-8 sessions is normally recommended to improve concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and colour. Alternatively the lightfusion is a fantastic way to give your skin a boost as a one off facial.
How long will the results last?
This is dependant on your lifestyle, skin type and whether you have combined the lightfusion with other treatments. Once an initial course is completed we recommend to have at least one maintenance treatment every 4-6 weeks to prolong the effects.
